Percent-Fraction : Fraction-Percent
To convert a percent to a fraction, put the percent over 100 and simplify.
Example#1:
30% = 30/100
30 and 100 can both be divided by 10.
30 divided by 10 = 3
100 divided by 10 = 10
30% = 30/100 = 3/10
Example #2:
9 % = 9/100.
9 and 100 can both only be divided by 1, therefore it is in simplest form.
There are two ways to convert a fraction to a percent.
First way:
Convert the fraction to a decimal, then convert the decimal to a percent.
Example #1:
4/5 = 4 divided by 5
(notice a decimal point and a zero placeholder were added).
4/5 = 0.8
0.8 = 80%
Example #2:
3/8 = 3 divided by 8
(need to show the division process)
3/8 = 0.375
0.375 = 37.5%
Second way: To convert a fraction to a percent, write an equivalent fraction with a denominator with a power of 10.
This method works only is the denominator of the original fraction is a factor of 10, 100, 1000, etc.
Example #1:
4/5 = x/10
4/5 = 8/10 (multiplied the numerator and denominator by 2)
8/10 = 80/100 = 80%
Example #2:
7/20 = x/100
7/20 = 35/100 (multiplied the numerator and denominator by 5)
35/100 = 35%

The whole circle is shaded blue.
100% of the circle is shaded blue.
The circle is divided into 4 equal-sized pieces.
Each piece is ¼ of the whole.
¼ of 100% = 100 divided by 4 = 25%.
Each piece represents 25%.
The whole rectangle below is shaded.
100% of it is shaded (colored).
The rectangle is divided into 5 equal-sized pieces.
Each piece represents 1/5 of the whole.
1/5 of 100% = 100 divided by 5 = 20%
Each piece represents 20% or 1/5 of the whole.
The red section is 20% or 1/5.
The green section is 20% or 1/5.
The red and green sections make up 40% or 2/5 of the whole.
